Today I received an answer from Lee Lundrigan, Stanislaus County Clerk Recorder, as to why we can not participate in the annual February 14th Marriages at the Mansion event in Modesto, CA.
She stated that they are only allowed to preside over marriages, and since that is not currently available for same-sex couples, then they can not do a civil ceremony for us. She even clarified that it was a misprint in the Modesto Bee that couples were able to renew vows at this event.
I thanked her for her time, and stated that when it does become legal for us to wed, we will be down at her office on the same day.
